The Videovangaurd presents: The Weekend Watch 07/22/2011.

Well it's been a while since I posted one of these and for that I apologize. These last few weeks have been hectic for yours truly and I have not had the time to put any of these up in the past. There are a few good movies coming out this week as we draw closer to the end of the summer season.

Stay cool this weekend everybody.

Captain America

Yes, Marvel fans the wait is over. "Captain America" finally comes to the big screen which now ends all the solo stories of each of the Avengers. With the success the other movies have done("Iron Man" and "Thor") I predict this one will do modestly well. The only thing hurting this movie would be poor performances from the cast and a weak storyline.

Friends with Benefits

Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake star as two attractive people who decide on a strictly sex only relationship. If this sounds familiar, it was the plot for the Natalie Portman Ashton Kutcher Rom com "No Strings Attached". Although in this version both parties only want a fuck buddy. It's only later do they discover that they actually love each other. I didn't spoil anything, the trailer pretty much gives this away. The preview  also shows Patricia Clarkson as Mila Kunis' domination fettish loving mother and Woody Harrelson as Justin Timberlake's uber hip gay father.  The parents are funny and they got the best lines so this has got to be fiction because no parent is ever that cool.

Life in a Day

Also known as the "Youtube" movie. I could remark more about this but I already covered this in a previous post. You can read about it ......Here.

Another Earth

In this sci fi tale, a replica of the planet earth is discovered and everyone has an alternate version of themselves living there. A woman trying to escape her past wins a trip to the planet, but will her double have a better life than her or not. This looks to have the same type of style that "Primer" and "Monsters" has. Which means a very cool premise with realistic looking effects to enhance it. Not a lot of people will see this in theatres but it will get a better following once it hits home.

The Myth of the American Sleepover

If John Hughes found the script to "Kids" but took out all the drugs, violence and sex.   He would end up with something very close to this movie. The characters in this story are not aimless, and they all seem to have a strong moral structure too. It's been a while since someone has been able to capture realistic portrayal of teenagers and not make it tragic.  I'm looking forward to this one.

Sarah's Key

In an effort to get an Oscar Nom. There is another movie about the Holocaust being released this weekend. Kristen Scott Thompson portrays a journalist who is searching for this Jewish girl named Sarah who may have escaped Nazi containment. Melusine Mayance who plays Sarah is very convincing from the few minutes I saw in the trailer. She is the main reason to watch this.
