2011 Golden Globe Predictions

Well folks The nominees for the Golden Globes were announced this week and with Ricky Gervais returning as host. This could turn out to be a more exciting show  than the Oscars.   Here is a list of just the movie categories and my predictions

***Note***   These are only just guesses because I have not seen many of the nominated films listed here

Best Motion Picture - Drama

The Descendants.

Moneyball

The Help

Hugo

The Ides of March

War Horse.

Who Will Win

The Descendants.

(Clip Curtosey of Fox Searchlight Pictures)

I hear nothing but good things about this flick which is odd because I found the ads to be rather dull.  Nevertheless Director Alexander Payne's latest has managed to garner a whopping 90 % approval on Rottentomatoes.com so who am I to complain.

Best Actor- Drama

Brad Pitt- Money Ball

Ryan Gosling - The Ides of March

Leonardo DiCaprio - J. Edgar

Michael Fassbender - Shame

George Clooney - The Descendants

Who Will Win

Michael Fassbender.

(Clip Curtosey of Fox Searchlight Pictures.)

I want "Shame" to be advertised more and I want the whole controversy about the NC-17 rating to be demolished.  That is the sole reason why I want Fassbender to win.  Besides it takes a lot of courage to portray sex open and honestly on screen.

Best Actress - Drama

Tilda Swinton - We Need to Talk about Kevin

Glen Close - Albert Nobbs

Rooney Mara - The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

Viola Davis - The Help

Meryl Streep - The Iron Lady

Who Will Win.

Tilda Swinton - We Need To Talk About Kevin

(Clip Curtosey of BBC Films)

This was a tough choice, but I believe Tilda will take home the award as a mother who is trying to uncover the facts of an tragedy her son may have caused.

Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy

The Artist

Midnight In Paris

Bridesmaids

50/50

My Week with Marilyn

Who Will Win.

Midnight in Paris.

(Clip Curtosey of Sony Pictures Classics )

As much as I am rooting for "The Artist".  I believe Woody Allen's time traveling comedy will pick up the award this year.  It is a movie that keeps getting better and better every time you watch it.  Even if you hate Woody Allen movies.

Best Actor - Comedy

Ryan Gosling - Crazy Stupid Love

Jean Dujardin - The Artist

Brendan Gleeson - The Gaurd

Joseph Gordon Levit - 50/50

Owen Wilson - Midnight in Paris

Who Will Win

Jean Dujardin - The Artist

I expect a win for him at the Oscars too and I have not even seen this movie yet.  A performance without saying one word is very difficult and I hope he gets some sort of compensation for his work.

Best Actress -  Musical or Comedy

Jodie Foster - Carnage

Charlize Theron - Young Adult

Michelle Williams - My Week with Marilyn

Kate Winslet - Carnage

Kristin Wiig - Bridesmaids

Who Will Win

Kristin Wiig - Bridesmaids.

(Clip Curtosey of Universal Pictures)

Yes I know it's a long shot, but the rest of the nominees are more dramatic roles than  comedic ones.  I for one would love to see a comedian take home the award.   Plus I'm sure Michelle Williams would rather be nominated for an Oscar instead of winning a comedic award at the globes.

Best Director

Woody Allen - Midnight In Paris

Michael Hazanavicius - The Artist

George Clooney - The Ides Of March

Martin Scorsese - Hugo

Alexander Payne - The Descendants

Who Will Win

Michael Hazanavicius - The Artist

(Clip Curtosey of The Weinstein Company)

It's not an easy task to make a movie that is completely silent and have it be enjoyable without being gimmicky.  Plus it has some old school charm that voters just love.
