The Videovangaurd: The Weekend Watch 08/26/2011

I'm sorry for the length of this post, but I am going away this weekend and won't have a chance to post any upcoming trailers while I'm gone. Thanks again to those of you who view this on twitter, facebook, or any other site. I do appreciate it. Soon I will be posting some audio and video reviews. But for now let's watch some movies, shall we.

Note*  Keep in mind readers that I have not seen these movies, but am basing my opinion solely on the trailer.

Ever since her debut in Greg Araki's "The Doom Generation" I have been somewhat intrigued by this little hottie, and it has nothing to do with her great body.  Well O.K. it does help a little, but I am impressed that she has was able to be more than just a pretty face and score some very impressive and memorable roles.  The most well known is her character Cherry Darling in the Robert Rodriguez flick "Planet Terror" for the "Grindhouse" double feature movie.

Diablo Cody is a good choice for "The Evil Dead"reboot.

It's come to my attention that there has been some debate about the upcoming remake of Sam Raimi's horror classic "The Evil Dead"(Which you can now view on Netflix). One of the most talked about topics revolving this project is the involvement of Academy Award winning writer Diablo Cody. Diablo is best known for "Juno" and she created the hit show "The United States of Tara" with help from executive produce Steven Speilberg. So her track record isn't all that bad. She made one flop with "Jennifer's Body", but I'm not sure you can't blame it's lack of success on just the writer alone.

Now all the trolls are coming out of their caves between sessions of excessive masturbation to slam on this film even before production starts. What gives people?  Hell the screenplay that Diablo is only doing touch ups on is not complete.  She is only contributing to the script with producer Sam Raimi and director Fede Alvarez.(his short "Panic Attack" is pretty F'ing sweet.) She is not writing the whole movie by herself.

I will say that having a good writer like Ms.Cody on this is a damn good idea. She will at least make the dialogue more memorable. Can you seriously look someone in the face and say that "The Evil Dead" had great quotable lines. It had great effects with memorable characters and story, but the dialogue it did not. "Join Us" is the only line that comes to mind when I watched this.

Now I for one thought "Evil Dead 2" was the perfect remake of the first one. So I am curious at how they will reboot this franchise. Even though I would much rather see continuing adventures of Ash starring Bruce "don't call me Ash" Campbell himself. I'm not going to complain until I see the final product.

Let's hear your thoughts on this people.  I want to know what your thinking, tell me what's on your mind.  Yes I'm using the lyrics from a song by The Information Society as my closing.  Good night

"Winnie The Pooh" is not just a great return back to the style of 2D animated movies. It also marks a wonderful turn back to good basic story telling as well.  I really had to think hard about any faults with this and if I had to think of one is that it was too short.  This is the perfect example of a family picture.  One that everyone will enjoy for the same reason instead of having jokes that only adults will get but it goes over the kids' heads.   If you feel like you are too old to enjoy a movie like this in theaters don't because this is easily the best animated movie so far this year.
