New movies on "The Weekend Watch" 01/20/2012
Fuck it's cold out here.
I know this sort of language may not be suitable for this type of website, but if you are one of the unlucky ones to actually live in the Midwest, you'll know exactly what I mean. I have the heat turned up and I still feel like a god damn icicle. It's almost too cold for me to even leave the house. Much less watch a movie, but nevertheless here are the ones being released this week
It's been rumored that director Steven Sodenberg is retiring from making movies. If that is true, I'm glad he decided to finish it off with this. This looks to be a very entertaining action flick with martial arts star Gina Carano in a very good performance.
I'm sorry but Kate Beckinsale in tight leather is not convincing me I need to see this flick. I will gladly pay her ten dollars to wear that for me and give me a lap dance. I'm sure that will be more fun than having to sit through this movie. If you are one of those people who loves this franchise. My comments won't mean shit to you. This just never appealed to me.
George Lucas has been working on this story about the Tuskegee Airmen for over 20 years and after watching this trailer. He could have used at least 5 more to find a better director. Yes the aerial shots are impressive but it's the same type of plane fights you have seen in countless other movies before. Also the acting isn't anything really worth remembering, it all seems very cliched and the story is very predictable too. The dialogue also seems to have tons of really bad puns that don't belong. Yes it's a good thing that these men are getting a big screen treatment, but they much better respect than this. sh
The Flowers of War.
Zhang Yimou, the director of such visual treats such as "House of Flying Daggers" and "Hero" directs his first English language production about the rape of Nanking. Christian Bale takes some time out from playing Batman to be a priest who helps out some of the victims. I am glad there are movies that explore an ugly side to our history. Yes it will be uneasy to look at but it's also extremely important.
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
This is a movie that is going to tug on your heart strings and make you cry and if you don't love this movie, than you don't love America. Well I am not going to see this because it doesn't look that impressive nor does it give me any real reason to care about any of these characters. If they were going to do a movie focusing on Tom Hanks' attempts to get out of the towers. That would be more impressive than actually watching this. There have been other movies that have done the tragedy of 09/11 so much better than this.
