TheVern's Whiskey Oscar Challenge.

Well it appears to be that time of year for movie geeks and film buffs to get together and honor the best motion pictures of 2011.  The academy in a feeble attempt to not piss anyone off has nominated nine films for best picture.  Yet they still manage to alienate fans of  the last "Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 2", "Drive" and "Rise of The Planet Of the Apes.  They could have had ten nominees and added one of those into the pack, but noooo.  This year, I'm afraid that the actual award show is going to be kind of plain and uninteresting.  It's not that I have anything against Billy Crystal as host, I just have a feeling his jokes won't be as nearly as funny as Ricky Gervais was when he hosted The Golden Globes.  Those award shows at least have the good merits to separate dramas from comedies. That way it can appeal to more viewers.  If your not looking too forward to the award show itself, but are still planning on watching it.  I have a fun game that you can play with your friends.

Note*****  This is a drinking game so if you do decide to play this, make sure you don't have to go into work the next day.  Also make sure that you are playing this with at least one other person.  Drinking alone is never fun and please drink responsibly.

All right, now that I have giving you my public service statement let's discuss the game.

2nd Note****This is a battle royale game where one winner takes all.  You could put it into teams but then I would have to spend alot of time writing the different rules and I really don't want to do that.

How to play

Before the award show starts, have each player write down their choices on who is going to win. I will be using ballot sheets, but you can use something else if you like  Beside each category write the number of shots the other player will take if they lose. (For me the shot limit will be two for each category, but you can substitute shots for drinks or choose a different limit if you wish)   No one will be allowed to change their choices once the award show starts.  So make sure you are confident with what you picked.

To determine who goes first, I recommend using dice and letting the player with highest number go first.

When a category is called that person will challenge another player.  If the other player guesses the correct winner of that category, the opposing person has to do the shot. If not than they have to do the shot.  Are you with me so far?  Good. The winner will than have the right to challenge another contestant.

If each contestant chooses the same winner, well than they are safe from drinking.  If neither player guesses correctly than a quick game of rock, paper scissors will determine the winner.

You can challenge the same contestant as many times as you like, but that really won't be fun for everyone else so spread the love or the hate depending on if the opposing teams hates whiskey.

To make things a little easier for those of you lucky enough to play this with me.  I have listed below my picks of who is going to win in every category

  1. Nice predictions. I can't really see Williams winning at this point, but stranger things have happened, so you never know.

Never really been a whiskey guy myself. Sounds like a lot of fun though!

  2. NTEMP. You don't have to drink Whiskey in order to play the game. I know that Meryl Streep or Viola Davis are the top picks, but I gota take a chance and pick Michelle to win

  3. this year the oscar nomianted movies are,in my opinion as poor as the world economic crysis. For the first time in years i am not eager to know who won,or to see the movie that wins. The academy sometimes is just,oh lets be nice, strange.

  4. I'll agree that for the most part The Oscars failed at getting some good movies and actors nominated, but "Hugo","The Artist","Midnight in Paris", and"Moneyball" are all very good.
