The Weekend Watch: 04/27/2012

Damn.  It has been a while since I posted anything here, but last week there really wasn't much for me to praise or even rant about.  I am however  proud to announce though, that "Heathers" has been picked to be The Lamb's movie of the month.  Yes Yours truly will be discussing everything about this 80's cult classic with other great Lammies on an episode of The LAMBcast.  I'll post the link on this site once it's up.    I have a busy weekend ahead of me, but I hope you'll check out some of these new releases that are coming to a cinema house near you.

As always. The following article is not a review but just my opinions of the movie based solely on the trailer itself. Make sure you check your local listings before heading out, because a lot of these may not be playing in your area just yet.

The Raven

John Cusack is the famed author Edgar Allen Poe whose own works have inspired a copy cat murderer.  I can't wait for more movies about crimes based on other writers.  We could have someone rob banks to the works of  Douglas Adams or we could have someone commit heinous acts of cannibalism after reading Dr. Suess.  There is nothing but wide ranges of ideas with this concept.  As for the actual movie itself, it looks just a bit too glossy and clean to consider it scary for my tastes.

The Five Year Engagement.

Moving right from working with felt creatures. Jason Segel and Nicholas Stroller have teamed up to write this latest "R" rated romcom feature.  The premise follows Segel and Emily Blunt as a couple who's engagement has lasted a really long time.  I liked Stroller and Segel's  previous collaborations and will definitely watch this, but the trailer leaves me less than excited.

The Pirates: Band of Misfits.

If  Terry Gilliam were to direct this and have the cast of Monty Python as the voices, I would be more excited to check this one  out.  Still, this does look like a really good movie with a good voice cast including The Doctor David Tennant.  This is also from the same studio that did "Wallace and Gromit" and "Chicken Run", so yeah I'll be checking this one out.

No, this is not the movie where Julianne Moore has become infected with the 20th century.  It's an action movie about a guy(Jason Statham) who has to protect a young girl from some mobsters because she holds a dangerous secret.  This premise sounds very tired and worn out, but the action scenes do look good and at least will keep me entertained.  Not too sure I want to see this in theatres though.

All right let's get one thing on the record.  If a movie trailer has a voice over narration and it's not for a foreign language film.  Chances are it's not going to be that good of a  movie.  I love movies by Richard Linklatter, but lately his movies since "A Scanner Darkly" have been kind of dull.   Let's just hope his re teaming with "School Of Rock" cast member Jack Black results in a good movie.

Sound of My Voice

Two Journalists (Christopher Denham and Nicole Vicius) investigate a cult whose leader(Brit Marling) claims to be from the future.  This is the second feature film from screenwriter Marling who also co wrote the spellbinding flick "Another Earth"  This look absolutely interesting and something worthwhile to talk about after it's over.  I just hope it doesn't disappoint.

Damn does this look good.  I don't even mind that it has narration in the trailer because it is a foreign language movie.  Not really sure what the whole story is about, except that it involves a guy who will do anything to obtain a rare art piece.  An American studio has already purchased the remake right, so one will be in the works for all you lazy bitches who can't read.  For all others get ready to sink you teeth into this very clever Swedish thriller.

Have a good weekend everyone.
