Usually when a guy says that a girl has beautiful eyes it's just right after he has checked out other parts of her body first, but with Zooey Deschanel. You can't help but notice those big eyes of hers. I have never in my life have seen a woman with more expressive wide eyes than I do her and it is great. With eyes that big she is going to be expressive with any sort of emotion she has. It would be almost impossible for anyone to look away from her because her eyes are so hypnotising. I'm just glad that she doesn't practice evil because she could very well trick me into doing anything she wants.
The Videovangaurd wants to pay a little homage to this wide eyed beauty with a look back at some of her well known acting roles and some of her singing throughout the years. Since I have not seen everything she was in this list may be kind of short, but I will try to fill as much as I can.
FILM & TV
In Cameron Crowe's biopic about his days as a young writer for "Rolling Stones". Zooey Deschanel plays the main character's older sister who gets into a fight with their religious mother and moves out. I believe that act of rebellion is what motivates him to want to take this job in the first place. Without her standing up to their mother he may not have had the strength to even try. So kudos to her for being one of the best older sisters in film history.

This was a movie that was below every one's radar when it came out. I just happen to catch it on cable one day and enjoyed the performances from it's young cast. Plus it was the first time we got to see Joseph Gordon Levitt and Zooey Deschanel appear on screen together. They later re team in a much happier movie later down the list.
The Good Girl.

As far as Christmas movies go. "Elf" is one of the most creative and most heartfelt ones to come out. Will Ferrell does his usual man child schtick that has been used before in other movies, but while those characters were only laughable. In this one he was endearing. The moment that really made people take a notice of Zooey is in the above clip when she is singing in the shower. I'll get more into her singing and her music later on, but let's continue the list.
The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy.
Being a big fan of the book, I really can not picture anyone more perfect to portray Trillian than Zooey. Trillian is a character who thinks more with her heart than she does her mind and right away I just pictured her in that role. Now some of you might find her to be kind of a bitch for ditching Arthur Dent to hang out with a two headed alien on his space ship. At least she had a pretty good reason. After all it was a spaceship. You can't have a better pick up line than "Do you wanna see my spaceship" and not have it be a lame reference to your penis.

This was an adaptation of "The Wizard of Oz" that premiered on the Sci FI(or SYFY or however they spell it) channel back when they made quality programing instead of all the Asylum Features("MegaShark vs Giant Octopus") that seem to dominate the channel now. This was really quite brilliant because it takes alot of things you know about the story and changes them. Their is a lot of added plot elements and character developments that was not in the original 1939 classic. Zooey Deschanel plays D.G. The young girl who wakes up in the O-Z and finds her way back home. She adds moments of reality to the fantasy and vice versa. It may have something to do with her child like appeal while at the same time being very serious when she needs to be.
500 Days of Summer.

I may get a lot of heat for saying this, but I found this to be one of the best romantic comedies since "Annie Hall". In fact both movies do share similar qualities. They are both comedies about relationships. Both use fascinating cinematic techniques.(the split screen section that shows both the expectation and the reality is just brilliant) and both movies are told in a non linear format. "500 Days "...also stands out because it doesn't follow the same tired romantic story plot lines that have been used before. Plus how in the world could you not fall in love with Zooey's character in this movie. Even if it was for just so many days. It would be the best time of anyone's life. It also marks the reunion of Joseph Gordon Levitt and Zooey Deschanel who appeared earlier on my list with "Manic".
The New Girl.
This is a comedy series about Jess. A free spirted woman who moves in with three guys after she finds her boyfriend in bed with another woman. Even though her antics sometimes drive her roommates up the wall. They end up becoming good friends. At least I think they do. All I saw was the pilot and have not had a chance to watch more episodes.
As you can see in the clip from "Elf", Miss Deschanel has one hell of a singing voice although some have found it to be very annoying. I will agree that it sounds very different from most of the singers that are out today, but I don't think it's horrible. Her vocal styling has elements of country mixed in with sixties pop. I just love it
In 2006 Zooey met up with Matthew Ward and the two formed the indie pop group. She and Him. I wasn't too crazy about a lot of their songs, but I found these ones to be very charming and sweet. Although my opinion of this might have might have something to do with their inventive videos.
This is a really cute duet between Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon Levitt that I think should would make a really great song to play during that particular holiday. Also Joseph has got quite a voice on him too. If these two ever wanted to go on tour together. I would check them out
Despite what many of you may think. "Winnie The Pooh" was one of the best animated movies to be released last year next to "Rango", and I was upset that it could not garner a single nomination. I will be honest that it was Miss Deschanel contribution to the soundtrack that made me want to check this out. Now luckily I loved the movie no matter if she was involved in this or not, but her vocals just added some extra charm to this movie which I loved.
Here are some photographic reasons of why she belongs on this blog.
