Charlize Theron: Sexiest African American
With "Snow White and The Huntsman" opening this weekend and "Prometheus" a week later. I thought it was time for me to take a look at one of my favorite African Americans of the silver screen. She is very talented and extremely beautiful. Won an Oscar for best actress, and was number sixteen in Maxim's Hottest 100 list. Of course I'm speaking about Charlize Theron. She was born in South Africa which makes her an African who then came to America. Therefore, she's an African American, and I just love her.
Miss Theron has a wide range of movies that I will try and cover as much as I can, but I won't get to them all.
2 Days In The Valley. 1996
Very sexy is the only way to describe this noir like thriller that costars James Spader, Teri Hatcher and Jeff Daniels. In it Charlize plays the girlfriend to one of the hit men who has double crossed his partner. This was my (and I'm sure many other's) first introduction to this lady and from the above scene. It's very easy to see why she has been in our minds ever since.
The Devil's Advocate. 1997
Whoa. Keanu Reeves is a small town defense lawyer who takes a job at a firm run by the Devil himself(Al Pacino). His wife is played by Charlize who pays the price of her husband being seduced by greed. It's an all right movie, but it runs a little bit too long and there are scenes that I'm sure looked dramatic on paper, but on the screen, It's just laughable.
In Woody Allen's comedy about the problems of fame. Kenneth Branagh basically plays Woody Allen who tries to hit it big with a movie script. In the above clip, Charlize plays a famous fashion model, who proceeds to seduce him. It's funny and somewhat sexy, but I don't buy for a second that someone that hot would go for a writer that quick. Especially since this was his first script. Not one of Allen's best movies but it does have some enjoyable moments.
Kevin Bacon and Courtney Love play career kidnappers who take Dakota Fanning away from her parents(Charlize Theron, and Stuart Townsend) in order to collect a ransom Having no way to communicate with anyone but the kidnappers,. Miss Theron's character takes a big risk to help get her daughter back. This is a good movie that had me interested the whole time I watched it. It had some really tense moments between Bacon and Theron as shown above.
The Italian Job. 2003
In this remake of the 1969 crime caper, Charlize gets to play the eye candy. True, she has skills as a safe cracker, but her main job is just to be in scenes and look hot. Which she does very well This was an enjoyable movie, and I liked the moment when the mini coopers did the heist, but there wasn't one performance I could really latch onto.
The best way for the Academy to notice you is to hide your looks. Make yourself as ugly as possible. That was what Charlize Theron did, and it worked perfectly. She won the Best Actress Oscar in 2003 for her performance in this film. In "Monster" she plays the famed serial killer Aileen Wuornos who in the late 80's and early 90's killed over seven men. The first two men she killed did deserve it, because they were rapists and assholes. Yet that line gets to be blurred when she begins killing for no reasons other than the ones she makes up. This is a brave performance because you can somewhat sympathize with this character, and her struggle. I also want to give praise to Christina Ricci who portrays Aileen's girlfriend. She has some really great moments in this movie as well.
Aeon Flux. 2005
Although Miss Theron was giving critical praise for her work in "Monster" it didn't give her a whole lot of name recognition. She needed a franchise to latch onto, and luckily she found one where she can wear hot outfits and be a super hero. Too bad the movie was just god awful Adapted from the famous animated shorts, but only in name. "Aeon Flux" was one of those movies that wanted to coast on The Matrix's coat tails.. It removed everything that made the original great and it turned the main character into a complete vanilla. The character of Aeon Flux is known for having sex with both men, and woman. She is also known for engaging in BDSM activities and other fetishes I can't find a definition for just yet. However this movie wants to ignore those elements to bring us a safe PG-13 product.
Young Adult. 2011
Hey guess what, the bitch is back in town. If you want to read more about what I thought of this, just click on the title in red. The movie got a lot of praise in some circles but I didn't care much for it. I might have to sit down and watch this again to see if I missed anything.
Snow White and The Huntsman. 2012
I don't care what that mirror says. I'm going to choose the Wicked Queen over Snow White. Especially since it's my choice is between Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron.. I'm reminded of that scene from "Annie Hall" when Alvy Singer(Woody Allen) talks about when he was a kid, his parents took him to see Disney's "Snow White" and The Seven Dwarfs". While everyone fell for Snow White, Alvy fell in love with the wicked queen. There are going to be a lot of men who would gladly rip out the heart of the famed princess if the queen looked like that.
I know nothing about this movie or her role in it, but I am very excited to see this one. "Alien" is one of the best science fiction movies ever made, and I'm glad Ridley Scott is returning to the series. I just hope he doesn't muck it up.
