The Weekend Watch: 07/27/2012

Last week I did not post a Weekend Watch article, because no one was going to go up against "The Dark Knight Rises", and that was the only release that everyone was going to see.  This week we have a little more variety for your weekend money.

Note*** Not that I need to remind you, but the following article is not a review, just my impressions of the trailer.

The Watch.

A neighborhood watch committee believes that there are aliens disguised as human beings and wants to battle them.  With the recent success of "Ted",  I'm pretty sure Fox wants to have their own R-rated hit with this one.  The trailer looks very tame and does not mention what it is rated.  I don't find that to be much of a problem, but it's obvious that the movie is marketed towards a younger audience which won't be able to see it.  The trailer itself did very little to make me laugh, but it does co-star Rosemarie DeWitt ("The United States of Tara") and Doug Jones ("Pan's Labyrinth").

Step Up: Revolution.

I almost hate to admit it, but this does look pretty good.  A movie about flash mobs that become a protest movement is just too silly and out-there for me to refuse.  There is nothing to be taken seriously in a movie like this.  This could have easily taken place on a different planet, in a different universe.  I have never seen any of the movies in this franchise, but I would see this.

Ruby Sparks.

Paul Dano writes about a  fictional woman (Zoe Kazan) who suddenly comes to life.  The premise of this did not hold my interest, until I saw that it was being directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Farris-  the team behind one of my favorite movies of all time, "Little Miss Sunshine".

Killer Joe.

This looks fucking awesome.  Matthew McConaughey plays a professional killer who gets hired by Emile Hirsch to kill his mother (Gina Gershon).  Problems arise when the killer takes an interest in the man's younger sister (Juno Temple).  I was going to write off Mr. McConaughey as being one of those actors that only had one good role and a career based solely on looks, but this is quite the departure from his other roles and I can't wait to see it.

Klown.

This is being hailed as one of the funniest movies of the year.  At least, that's what I read from some critics while I watch the trailer.  I have no idea what this story is about, except that it involves a guy who takes his much younger son on an adventure that is going to raise the bar on gross-out comedies.  This one is being played both in theatres and On Demand.

Let us hear in the comments what movie you would like to see the most this weekend.  Have a good one.

    1. I allways thought that Matthew's best role was in the movie Dazed and Confused, but it looks like he may have another good one in the works. Have yet to see Magic Mike. Thanks for the comment

  2. Looking forward to Killer Joe, though unfortunately it doesn't appear to be playing here. Klown also seems intriguing. Might have to hit that up on demand.

    1. Klown might be good, but Im a bit skeptical when I see previews that just comment on how funny a movie is without telling me the actual plot.

  3. Agreed - Killer Joe looks fucking awesome.
This is the first I've really heard of this Klown movie. Sure I kinda have to shake my head that they spelled CLOWN incorrectly, but it just mihgt be with the $6 or so to see it on demand.

    1. Maybe in Sweeden Klown means something different. Either that or they just messed up on the spelling and just forgot to change it for the release
