The Great Debate: The Great Gatsby.

This is mainly just a pilot to test everyone's interest in this.  Every week or so I am going to be posting two separate reviews from two different writers on one movie.  Next I will gage audience interests by hosting a poll on the sidebar to see which review was better.  At the end of the week that person will get bragging rights and then be put into a championship round at the end of summer.  Makes sense, good.  Are you ready for the first movie.  No, well too late because here it comes.

The Great Gatsby.

There have been at least five adaptations of F Scott Fitzgerald's literary masterpiece.  The most notable version was released in 1974 with Mia Farrow and Robert Redford as the title character.  Now we get a new version for 2013 with Leonardo DiCaprio taking over the lead role and an updated soundtrack by Jay Z.  Right now it  has about a 50% approval from Rotten Tomatoes and the reviews I have been reading for this are indeed mixed.  I decided to post two different reviews and ask you which one holds up more.

On the side that is praising this film we have  Surrender To The Void.

On the other side that is trashing it, we have  Can't Stop The Movies.

Click on each sites name to read the review and then vote in our weekly poll on the right hand side.  The Poll will close by 11 PM Eastern on 05/22/2013.  Have a great day.

  2. Just vote for me. I put a lot of love into that review while I was being very fair though I am aware that the film does have some flaws.

    2. Don't have a Twitter handle. I don't use Twitter nor Facebook. I'm no good with social networking.

  4. Thanks for the link! This is an awesome idea for a feature and I'll be sure to check back for future debates.

Anyway, I vote for myself (obviously) but the review at The Void is well put. We obviously feel very differently about the cumulative effect of the film but I can share in the appreciation of Joel Edgerton's Tom, one of the only characters served well by the film.

That said, I'm still astonished that I almost fell asleep watching the damn thing. Never have I been so bored watching so many make such a spectacle.

  5. Hi, I voted in the poll for Steven's review, but when I returned, the vote had not registered. I voted once more, but again the vote vanished.

    1. Thanks so much for the vote. It was only open for a week though, next one will be longer once I get my computer working fully.

  6. Actually I voted (twice) during the alloted time. I think the issue is with that blogger poll device not working as it should. I know polldaddy works over at The Warning Sign, maybe you can find a widget.
